Hello bloggers! In yesterday’s blog I talked bout contemporary interiors, today I will be talking about modern interior design. After reading today’s blog you can decide which style you like best; contemporary or modern style. The modern style houses focus on structural simplicity, order, and functionality. The foundation for the modern style are monochromatic walls, basic materials, and clean architectural lines. Modern interior design gives special importance to strong lines, a lack of ornamentation, and minimal texture; it utilizes straightforward furniture and dramatic modern art to supplement the stark architecture. Lighting plays an important role in a modern house because it’s a key structural element that accentuates planes and highlights focal points.

Many of you may still not know the difference between contemporary and modern interiors. I’ll give you a brief description of the term “modern” in interior design. The term “modern” in interior design refers to “Mid Century Modern”. It is recognizable by it’s clean, unadorned interiors. Use of natural materials such as wood, leather, teak, and linen are prominent. Materials that are very popular in modern style homes are molded plywood and plastic, as well as polished metal. Furniture is very open and raised off the floor allowing for an airy feeling. Walls are often white making the space seem bigger.

Modern interiors generally have bare floors and if area rugs are used, they are typically wool, and neutral in color. Now in days the modern interior is referred to as retro.
